What you can ask about
Understanding patterns
Explore what happens before, during and after difficult moments without reducing a child to a behaviour label.
Communication & coping
Discuss ways for children to express needs, request help and participate in routines that matter to them.
Transitions & daily routines
Identify priorities around changes of activity, family routines and participation at home or in the community.
Caregiver involvement
Ask how strategies will be explained, practised and reviewed with the people who know your child best.
What are you hoping will feel easier?
Start with a specific situation, such as leaving an enjoyable activity or managing an unfamiliar routine. Share what your child enjoys, what has already been tried and what feels respectful of your family’s values. A thoughtful plan considers communication, comfort, the environment and other possible unmet needs.
Questions to ask before beginning
Ask who will assess your child, who will deliver sessions, what their qualifications are and how supervision works. Discuss how goals are chosen, how your child’s assent and preferences are respected, and how the team responds when an activity causes distress.
Clarity about the type of service
Terms such as behaviour consultation, behaviour intervention, positive behaviour support and ABA are not interchangeable descriptions of a single programme. Ask the team to confirm the specific approach, clinician and service being offered. A website inquiry does not establish an ABA programme or a funding entitlement.

Common questions
Is behavioural support about making a child comply?
Our approach centres understanding, communication and everyday participation. Families should ask how proposed goals respect the child’s preferences and wellbeing, and how distress is handled.
Is this a diagnostic assessment?
A behavioural therapy inquiry is not a diagnostic assessment. Ask the team about the purpose and scope of any assessment before agreeing to it.
Do you offer ABA or behaviour intervention?
Please ask the team to confirm the available clinician, supervision and specific programme. We do not list an ABA package or promise a funding-eligible provider on this website.
